In the untouched seclusion of a remote, idyllic valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, 50km east of Lake Victoria, lies the tented Grumeti River Camp. Flanked by two hillsides, this blissful camp nestles beneath tall riverine trees on the banks of an oxbow tributary of the Grumeti River. It is one of the wildest and most remote camps in Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuary, the Serengeti. Intimate and distinctive, Grumeti is ideal for honeymooners or for celebrating a special occasion.
WILDLIFE
Grumeti camp lies in the path of the annual great migration (May to July) of zebra and wildebeest en route to Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Animals in the Grumeti area include lion, elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, baboon, colobus monkeys and giraffe. The pan on the edge of the camp is home to pods of hippo – some of the largest in the world are found here. The area also boasts one of the highest densities of cheetah in Africa. At night, listen to the nocturnal tunes of owls, bats and bushbabies, and the haunting calls of hyena, leopard and lion.
